From St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1
For the record, the burn ban decision was made by St. Tammany Parish Government before consulting with the Fire Chief’s in St. Tammany Parish first. The Parish President does have the right to do so.
However, at this time the St. Tammany Fire Chief’s Association is not in support of a burn ban. This very topic along with COVID-19 responses and measures were discussed, and have been discussed weekly, via phone conference, since this pandemic began.. this is being done so that all of the fire districts stay aligned during this unusual time.
They understand that law biding citizens who are following the Governor’s “Stay At Home Order" are taking this time to clean up their properties and experience as much normalcy as possible. The St. Tammany Fire Chief’s Association hopes to have a phone conference with Parish Government tomorrow to discuss this issue.
