LAKE CHARLES -- A dozen Ponchatoula men spent the last week cooking over 5,000 meals for Hurricanes victims in Lake Charles.
On behalf of the Ponchatoula Police Department and Tangipahoa Parish United by BarBQ, police chief Bry Layrisson and BBQ grand champion Jeff Petkevicius lead a team who cooked over 1,000 meals per day.
“We were grateful for the opportunity to feed folks who lost their homes in Hurricane Laura,” said Chief Layrisson. “The Ponchatoula Police Department is always here to help our neighbors in times of crisis."
The days were long and hot. The nights were uncomfortable as they slept in trucks and campers. But every man was happy to help.
"I am so proud of our team," said Layrisson. "They worked so hard. Our community is blessed to have such good men protecting and serving."
