Parish dedicates offices in memory of Burgess Tuesday

Parish Government offices in Amite to be named in honor of Tangipahoa's first Parish President

AMITE, LA, October 3, 2019 - A formal dedication ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to name the Tangipahoa Parish Government Annex as the "Gordon A. Burgess Governmental Building."

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced today that the dedication ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the governmental offices located at 206 E. Mulberry Street in Amite.

The building will be named in honor of Tangipahoa's first Parish President, Gordon A. Burgess, who served a record eight terms in that post from October 1986 until January 2016. At the time of his retirement, Burgess was the state's long-serving Parish President. He died in July 2019, following a brief illness.

Miller said members of the Burgess family will be on hand for the dedication ceremony, and the public is welcome to attend.
