Omega cancels 2021 events, including annual parade due to COVID-19

The Tangipahoa-based Mardi Gras organization, the Krewe of Omega, announced Friday night that after much consultation with local officials and much discussion, the group will cancel all remaining 2021 Carnival Season events, including their parade which was scheduled to roll the first week of February.

In a message posted to Facebook Friday night, the nearly 40-year-old local Krewe said, "After meetings with City of Hammond officials and police representatives; and taking into consideration the Governor’s Covid-19 conditions and restrictions for all social gatherings; it has been decided that in the best interests of the health and safety of our Krewe members and the citizens of our Parish, all scheduled Krewe of Omega events for the 2020-2021 Mardi Gras season will be cancelled.

"This cancellation includes:
•Twelfth Night (Jan 6)
•Royal Omega Mardi Gras Ball & Patron Party (Jan 23)
•2021 Parade (Feb 5)

"The Krewe of Omega would like to thank everyone for their continued support of our Krewe and for their understanding of this most difficult decision. We look forward to seeing everyone once we are able to gather again safely."
