Margie L. Brumfield

Margie L. Burris Brumfield, affectionately known by many as “Momo Margie”, was born on November 22, 1933. She was an only child from the union of Manuel Burris and Corine Bridges Burris. On January 13, 2020 she was called home to eternal rest.

Margie met, slipped away with, and married Shadrach Brumfield and from this union of five children were born with one deceased.

After leaving school early and a brief stay in New Orleans, she returned to Washington Parish and received her GED from Washington Parish Adult Education Center.

She was employed at McGeehee’s Clinic for 13 years as a cook, at Bogalusa Community Medical Center, and Riverside Medical Center for 15 years each as a Surgical Tech.

As a child she joined and was baptized at Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church followed by a brief membership at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness with her husband. She later returned to her home church, where she was involved in various auxiliaries such as the Senior Mission, Pastor’s Aide, Usher’s Ministry, and she was also a Deaconess. She was also active in activities outside of the church such as The Over Sixty Women’s Christian Ministry, The Democratic Area Voter’s League, and she was a listening ear and letter writer to young black incarcerated men in Franklinton and surrounding areas. She remained faithful to her church and community until her health began to fail when she moved into the Good Samaritan Living Center.

Once settled into her new home she was back at it again, getting involved in activities at the center. She was a busy body around the home but no one seemed to mind. Needless to say, she was just an all around people's person with lots of love for everyone. It didn’t matter who you were and what your skin color was, if you knew Margie Brumfield she showed you love.

She leaves to cherish plenty fond memories four children, Gilda Magee and Ginger Bickham both of Franklinton, LA, Stanley Brumfield of New Orleans, LA, Rhea (Ira Sr.) Batiste of Bogalusa, LA; Nine grandchildren: Reafa Bickham of Mandeville, LA, Torra (Elbert Jr.) Magee of Franklinton, LA, Kendrick (Connie) Magee of San Antonio, TX, Preference (Shawn Sr.) Pepp of Dallas, TX, Twentis Magee of Starkville, MS, Summer (Michael) Weiler of Holly Ridge, NC, Aramis (Kyra) Brumfield of Las Vegas, NV, Chance Brumfield of Seattle, WA, and Biaundra (Jeffrey) Crosby of Franklinton, LA; Thirty great- grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jonnie Beatrice Riley of Algiers, LA; and one brother-in-law, Oliver Brumfield of San Bruno, CA.

She also leaves children from another mother and father, Willie Robinson, Tyrounda Conerly, Roy (Katrina) Dyson Jr., and Cathy (O’Neal) Cotton; her adopted nieces and nephews, Ronald Bickham, Dolyal Bickham, Kendall Bickham, Vikki Taylor, Arescia Solomon; and three God-children, Veronica “Cookie” Garrett, Jerome Spurlock, and Brad Brumfield.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Shadrach Brumfield; her parents Manuel and Corine Burris; a son, Lloyd Brumfield and a grandson who she thought was hers, Rondy “Fella” Vernon.
