Johnny Ray Penton

On November 22, 2019, God called His son, Johnny Ray Penton home to be with Him. Johnny Ray was born on May 5, 1944 to James and Jervonne Penton. Johnny Ray was the eldest of six children. He graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1961. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1968. He joined the New York City Police Department and proudly served as one of New York’s finest for several years.

Johnny Ray was reunited and married to his childhood sweetheart Laura Bell (preceded in death in 1992) and they joined their two families together with a total of 10 children. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Johnny Ray, affectionately known as “Pop”, loved to cook, fish and watch football, especially the New Orleans Saints. On any given Sunday, you would hear, “Who Dat Talkin Bout Beaten them Saints, Who Dat?!” coming from the living room.

Late Friday evening, on November 22, 2019, with his favorite game playing on the television, Pop fell into his eternal rest. His work on this side was finished. He fought the good fight and finished his course. Now his body is healed and his spirit lives on with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

He leaves to cherish ten siblings, Darryl Dean, Kathy Walker, Reginald Taylor, Larry Walker, Raymond (Tammy) Penton, Arlene Walker, Patricia (Kelvin) Nicks, Wilbert (Lynn) Walker, Michael (Alma) Walker, and Calvin Walker; 24 grandchildren, Theresa, Antronette, Joshua, Warren, Diamond, Rocquia, Aj, Ree, Messiah, Kendra, Steven, Michael Jr., Jelisa, Makaylah, Arrione, Byran, Tiara, Daniel, Calvin Jr., Greg, Omar, Laura, Destiny, Marquis, and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. James and Jervonne Penton; wife, Laura Bell Penton; two brothers, James, Penton Jr., and Gerald Penton.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:00PM at Thirkield United Methodist Church with Rev. Nolan Robinson ~ Pastor; Pastor Jesse James Holloway ~ Officiant. Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
