Doris Lee Simmons
Doris Lee Simmons was born on June 9, 1948 to the late Cleo Bridges and Inez Fortenberry who preceded her in death. She attended Washington Parish School. At an early age, she joined United Methodist Church. She later in life joined Faith in the Word Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Jacob Tate, Jr. where she remained a member until her health began to fail.
At the age of eighteen, she married the late Willie Simmons, Jr. were five children were born in unity to cherish her memories, Michael Fortenberry, Pansy Simmons, Shirley Simmons, and Renea Simmons all of Franklinton, LA, and Harry Simmons of Tulsa, OK. She also leaves to cherish her memories three sisters, Wyvonia McClain, Jeanette Brumfield, and Jewelene Jenkins all of Franklinton, LA; two brothers, Jenard Fortenberry of Franklinton, LA and Rodney Fortenberry of Angola, LA; seventeen grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories, a brother-in-law Robert Bickham, whom she loved as a brother; and a second cousin, Joreganna Fortenberry, whom she raised as her child.
She is preceded in death by three sisters, JoAnna Bickham, Linda Fortenberry, her twin sister, Dorothy Fortenberry; one grandson, Eric Warren, whom she loved dearly.
A drive through viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton from 2:00PM until 7:00PM.
