Juvenile surrenders in Amite shooting case
A 17-year-old has turned himself in to Amite Police in connection with the shooting death of a 22-year-old Arcola man Monday night.
Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona said the juvenile was accompanied by a family member and turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday. He has been charged with manslaughter and a charge of being a juvenile in possession of a weapon.
The arrest stems from a Monday evening shooting in the 400 block of 3rd Street. Trabona said Arkejen Freeman, 22, was shot once in the torso with a 9-millimeter weapon. He died later that evening at Hood Memorial Hospital.
Trabona said detectives are still developing information on the case. The juvenile was transported from Amite Police to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center in Robert.
