Hammond man charged with drugs, warrants

Press Release from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office:

INDEPENDENCE, LA - On Nov. 7, at about 2:30 p.m., TPSO Narcotics Agents were traveling northbound on Easley Rd., when they observed Anthony Murray, 49, of Hammond, riding his bicycle on the roadway, yelling and waving erratically at passing cars.

Agents stopped to conduct a welfare check on the subject only to find him discombobulated and behaving in an abnormal manner. At this time, the subject was detained pending a roadside investigation.

It was soon learned that Murray had several outstanding failure to appear warrants for his arrest; therefore, he was subsequently detained by agents. A search of the suspect revealed a black canvas pouch containing a loaded syringe, several cut straws, and (2) small clear baggies containing a white powder substance suspected to be heroin.

Murray was taken into custody and transported to the parish jail where he was charged with possession of CDS I, possession of drug paraphernalia, and (4) failure to appear warrants.
