Update: Edward Davis, 40 years old of Hammond, turned himself in to HPD detectives.

Hammond, LA – On Sunday at approximately 7:16 am, the Hammond Police Department responded to a medical emergency on Garner Street. Upon arrival, Charles Davis, 39 years old of Hammond, was displaying symptoms of a possible overdose and had no visible signs of trauma. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance to the North Oaks Medical Center for treatment.
On Tuesday, HPD officers learned that Davis had died at the hospital. After an autopsy was performed, HPD officers learned that the victim’s cause of death was actually from blunt force trauma to the head.
Through an investigation conducted by the HPD Criminal Investigations Division, it was determined that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with Edward Davis, 40 years old of Hammond, on Saturday. During the fight, Charles Davis sustained severe trauma to his head which resulted in his death.
The Hammond Police Department has issued a warrant on Edward Davis for one count of Manslaughter.
