Entergy working on Tangipahoa Parish grid
From Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta

Entergy Louisiana is working to enhance reliability for our Tangipahoa Parish customers. So far this year, crews have continued or started work on multiple projects that will strengthen the local grid and improve electrical service.

You may see Entergy crews in areas along Gatlin Road, Bankston Road, and Cedar Lane in Hammond, along a seven mile stretch of U.S. Highway 51 in Ponchatoula, and near the Tangipahoa Parish sewer treatment plant on U.S. 51. As part of the U.S. 51 projects, we’re working to acquire the environmental wetlands permits to access some of the remaining poles that are not accessible by road. We plan to complete this work in May 2020. Crews are also working projects along Perrilloux Road in Madisonville.

As part of these ongoing projects, crews are inspecting and replacing insulators and associated hardware, securing loose grounding wires, increasing lightning protection, and inspecting and replacing wooden poles where necessary. Our work will isolate and minimize outages, help detect outages faster, and increase electrical capacity to support growth.

We’ve recently completed work to replace and relocate critical infrastructure on West Monistere Lane in Hammond that was susceptible to water damage that could compromise the base of the poles. The poles were relocated to higher ground to help ensure reliable service.

The ongoing reliability work includes vegetation management. We plan to trim trees along nearly 500 miles of line this year. Crews have already finished one-third of the work as part of our strategy to accelerate tree trimming ahead of hurricane season. Along with planned tree trimming, our teams are heavily concentrated in Robert along Highway 190 and Highway 445 and in Independence on Highway 40 and Highway 442. We are also working on primary service lines in Tickfaw, and Kentwood. That work is focusing on reducing the threat of damage to power lines from downed limbs or trees throughout the northern area of the parish.

We also recently completed building the Robert Substation, which not only increased electrical capacity in order to serve economic growth in eastern Tangipahoa Parish, but helped improve reliability to customers in the Hammond and Ponchatoula areas. Along with the new Robert Substation, we just completed construction on a new 14 mile line along Highway 445 to better serve our customers in Loranger.

In addition, crews recently completed work inside two substations that feed the Hammond area including a main breaker replacement. Extensive work is planned over the next few months at an Amite substation. The work includes equipment replacement, life extension maintenance, and the installation of animal mitigation equipment.

Entergy Louisiana is committed to Tangipahoa residents and will continue to identify projects that will strengthen the grid and improve reliability.
