Deputies warn of scam involing Social Security numbers

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has received calls from residents about a scam that is going around.

Residents are receiving phone calls from someone claiming their social security number has been flagged and will be cancelled unless they provide the requested information.

This is a scam! Please do not provide your social security number or other personal information to anyone over the phone.

If you receive a suspicious phone call and want to know if it is a scam, hang up look up the number of the agency the individual said they are with (in this case the Social Security Administration) and call them directly to inquire about the phone call.
