Press Release from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office:

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are currently investigating a domestic disturbance that occurred early Friday (January 10) morning in the Natchez Trace neighborhood near Covington.

The incident resulted in one man killing another, and a suspect is in custody.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has identified the man killed as Jose Amaya, 58, of Covington.

Amaya was taken to St. Tammany Parish Hospital with multiple stab wounds and succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy will be conducted later today to determine cause and manner of death.

The Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
