Mt. Hermon fatality fire investigation continues

WASHINGTON PARISH--- State Fire Marshal (SFM) deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a camper fire in Mt. Hermon involving one death.
Just before 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13th, Washington Parish Fire District #9 responded to the 36000 block of Highway 1055 in Mt. Hermon following a call from a concerned social worker who had observed smoke coming from a camper he was visiting to check on the occupant due to his health condition.
The body of a man believed to be the 59-year-old camper owner was discovered inside next to a small, smoldering fire. Also located either beside, touching or very near the body were two electric heaters, one powered on and one not, as well as a blow torch.
Official identification and cause of death are pending with the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office.
At this time, the investigation into the cause is ongoing and currently classified as undetermined.
