Monday is Inauguration Day in Tangi, BR

Monday is Inauguration Day in Baton Rouge and across much of the I-12 area as the Governor, lawmakers, and area parish government officials take their oaths for a new four-year term.

In Tangipahoa, Parish President Robby Miller and the 10-member Tangipahoa Parish Council will be sworn in during ceremonies scheduled at 3 p.m. at the Florida Parishes Arena Event Center in Amite.

Miller will begin his second four-year term as Tangipahoa Parish President. The incoming council includes seven veteran councilmen (Trent Forrest, Louis Joseph, Carlo Bruno, Buddy Ridgel, Joey Mayeaux, Lionell Wells, and David Vial) along with three newcomers, John Gary Ingraffia, Brigette Delatte Hyde, and Kim Coates.

The newly-installed Tangipahoa Parish Council will meet that evening, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the TPG offices on Mulberry Street in Amite.

In Baton Rouge, the new House of Representatives will gather at 10 a.m. to take the oath of office and elect their leadership for the 2020-2023 term. Rep. Sherman Mack (R-Albany) is considered a frontrunner for the Speaker of the House. Dean of the House, Rep. Robby Carter (D-Greensburg) will call for the vote Monday.

Across the hall, the Senate will also gather at 10 a.m. to be sworn in and elect their leadership.

At 11:30 a.m., Gov. John Bel Edwards will take the oath of office for the second time on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge. The Governor and First Lady will begin the day with an invite-only mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Baton Rouge. Following the mass, they will travel to the State Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony. Limited seating is available for the ceremony, but the public will have access to a standing area on the Capitol Grounds to view the ceremony.
