Hammond man arrested for Friday shooting

Press Release from Hammond Police:

November 22, 2019, City of Hammond, LA – On November 22, 2019, at approximately 11:30 am, Hammond Police Department officers responded to an incident of shots fired at the corner of North Morrison Boulevard and Blackburn Extension that began inside the His Fashion store at 1001 North Morrison Boulevard.

HPD detectives learned that a male went into the business brandishing two pistols and began to shoot. Initially, detectives believed that one individual was shot but later learned the victim had a graze wound to the hand that was not life threatening.

Nearby, in the West Dale subdivision, the Hammond Street Crimes Unit located Keith Hunt, 28, of Hammond, who fit the description of the shooter and had two pistols with him. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of Stolen Property, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Detectives believe today’s incident is in retaliation from a previous fist fight between the victim and suspect at Club Strawberries.

Anyone with information about today’s incident should contact Detective Miller, with the Hammond Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 985-277-5741, by the Hammond Police Department’s Facebook Page, by email [email protected], or by contacting Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa's anonymous tip line at 1-800-554-5245.
