19-year-old charged with principle to arson, attempted murder

A 19-year-old Franklinton man has been charged with principle to attempted first degree murder and principle to aggravated arson.

On June 3, 2020, the Franklinton Police Department responded to an aggravated arson at a residence on Bene Street. On arrival, Officers located a fire that was quickly extinguished. Officers were able to obtain video surveillance from the residence which provided images of 2 individuals pouring an accelerant and lighting a fire. The video was uploaded to our Social Media pages and with the public’s assistance, both individuals were identified. One juvenile and one adult.

On June 20, 2020, Patrol Officers located the juvenile (16) at a location in Franklinton, the juvenile was interviewed by Investigations and subsequently confessed to his involvement in the crime.

On July 6, 2020, Detectives located Mardeontae J. Lee (22) at his residence where he was arrested without incident. Lee was charged with 3 counts attempted first-degree murder (Felony), 1 count aggravated arson (Felony), 1 count contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile (Felony) and 1 count simple possession of marijuana (Misdemeanor) The investigation is on-going and it is believed to be in retaliation for an earlier homicide which occurred on June 1, 2020, where Paul Robinson was arrested.

As reported in our last release this investigation is on-going.
Detectives were able to connect Kadrick Thompson (19) of Franklinton as being a Principle to the aggravated arson and a Principle to 3 counts attempted first-degree murder from the June 3, 2020 incident.

During the investigation, it was determined Thompson had provided the accelerate to start the fire. Thompson was arrested by Patrol Officers on July 19, without incident in Franklinton, and is currently being held in the Washington Parish Jail.
