Covington man arrested for shooting two Friday evening

On Friday, the Covington Police Department (CPD) responded to reports of gunfire in 900 block of N. Filmore Street, at around 4:45 PM. Upon officer’s arrival, two gunshot victims were discovered. Officers quickly began rendering aid to the two gunshot victims until medical personnel arrived on scene to transport them to local hospitals for treatment.
A description and possible identity of the shooter was quickly discovered after speaking with several witnesses in the area. With the help of the St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO), who were on their way to assist the CPD, Deputies were able to intercept a subject fleeing the area that matched the description of the shooter. Deputies with STPSO quickly detained the suspect, identified as Keontez McGee (B/M, D.O.B. 02/05/1997) of Covington, LA, where he was then questioned by the CPD Criminal Investigations Division.
After further investigation McGee is believed to be responsible for the shooting. A warrant was issued, and signed by a Judge from the 22nd Judicial District Court for Keontez McGee for violation of the following charges:
Two (2) counts of LRS 14:27/30.1, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
One (1) count of LRS 14:130.1, Obstruction of Justice
One (1) count of LRS 14:95.2, Firearm Free Zone
One (1) count of LRS 40:966C(1)(B) Possession of Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (MDMA)
One (1) count of LRS 40:2161, Drug Free Zone
The two victims in this shooting are currently in stable condition, and expected to survive.
