Jerry Trabona's official announcement of candidacy for Mayor of the Town of Amite City
"For the last 16 years it has been my honor to serve as your Amite Chief of Police. I've worked hard to make the community I love a safer place to live. I believe I still have more to contribute to our great city.
"And that's why I am happy to announce my candidacy for Mayor of the Town of Amite City.
"I have over three decades of experience in municipal budgeting, and I have always maintained a balanced budget even during strict budget constraints. Over the 16 years as Chief of Police, I have saved the Town of Amite City tens of thousands of dollars by acquiring federal grant monies to purchase vehicles, computers and law enforcement equipment .
"If elected as your Mayor, I will actively seek grant funding to supplement our local tax revenue without the need to increase local taxes or fees for city services.
"My first priorities will be to address the needed improvements to our streets, drainage and sidewalks. I plan to take the steps so Amite City will again win one of the Cleanest City Awards. To achieve this we will concentrate on keeping our city litter-free and well-groomed.
"When elected Mayor, I planned to improve the city infrastructure by changing Oak Street to two lanes eastbound and Mulberry Street to two lanes westbound. This will create a better traffic flow and promote existing businesses while also encouraging new business to locate to our city.
"I am asking you for your support as I campaign to make the City of Amite a better place for all citizens."
