Beckner named new SLU Police Chief

HAMMOND---Michael Beckner joins Southeastern from Augusta University in Georgia. Michael has over 25 years of law enforcement experience. Michael started his law enforcement career in North Mississippi serving with the City of Corinth and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office. In 2006, Michael took a position with the University of Alaska Anchorage working his way through the ranks to the position of Chief.
Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration, is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute, and the FBI LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute. Michael is a veteran of the US Army and National Guard.
Michael is honored to have been selected to lead such a dedicated team and looks forward to building and expanding the community policing efforts, building new relationships with the University and Hammond Community, and creating an inclusive and safe learning environment while protecting Louisiana’s future leaders.
