Edward "Leon" Winstead, Sr.

Leon, age 73, went to his heavenly home Friday, November 20, 2020. He enjoyed participating in Corvette Car shows and traveling corvette road trips. Leon loved being involved in efforts to support law enforcement. He served as a deputy sheriff with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and as a police officer with the Albany Police Department for a total of 35 years. Leon had retired as a First Mate for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. His family always came first. Leon was often found entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leon is survived by his loving wife, Flo Winstead; daughters, Crystal Lynn Winstead, Kathy (Dean) Smith; son, Edward Leon (Nancy) Winstead, Jr.; sister, Diane Pigg; sister in law, Patricia Winstead; grandchildren, Edward Leon ‘Tres’ Winstead, III; Kolby (Kelli) Hill, Kalyn (Jonathan) Drew, Jackie Bains, Chance Edward Slade, Ace Adams; great-grandchildren, Theo Winstead, Kennedy and Ava Drew, and Karter Hill.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Minnie Lee Winstead; and brothers, Samuel Winstead, and Jesse Strawbridge.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W, Hammond, LA on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Billy Hutson officiating and interment to follow in Bradford Cemetery.
